You know it's important, but you have questions. Where should you post? What do you post? How often should you post?

Social media can be a great tool for reaching your community and inviting them to join your church family, but it can be really hard to know how best to use it without it eating up precious hours of your week. You know it matters because each post can serve as outreach, discipleship, or engagement, and every single one increases your visibility in your community. But where do you start?

A cartoon computer with like hearts floating out of it.

Start with mission. What is your church's mission and vision? Who are you trying to reach? What makes you recognizeable in your community? Do you have colors, a logo, and fonts that you use consistently? Gather all of this information in one place!

Next, come up with some post ideas. Every social media post on your church profile can do one of 5 things, and they all happen to start with "E"! A post can encourage, educate, engage, empower, or evangelize. Whether it's a Bible verse, a blog post from your pastor, an event invitation, or a photo of someone in your church doing amazing work, every post will fall into one of those categories. Take a moment and write as long of a list as you can of post ideas.

After you have your list of ideas, come up with a content plan. Maybe on Mondays, you share a link to your livestream or sermon recording. On Tuesdays, it's a word from your pastor. On Wednesdays, a Bible verse. You get the idea! Create some categories for each day, paying attention to varying which one of the E's you are using and shooting for some variety.

And then pay attention! Social media is social, after all. Respond to comments and messages in a timely manner, and watch what people like and engage with. Post more of that next week!
